Spinal Cord Injury.
Spinal cord injury including medico-legal aspects.
My pre-specialist medical training in medicine and surgery was in Oxford, Cambridge and London. I have been looking after spinal cord injured persons since 1980.
For three years I was in the Mersey Regional Spinal Cord Injury Centre in Southport. In 1985 I was accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons of England as a Specialist in Surgery in General and in the Specialty of Spinal Cord Injury. From 1985 until July 2011 I was Consultant Surgeon in Spinal Cord Injury in the National Spinal Injuries Centre Stoke Mandeville.
I have undertaken teaching, audit and research, mainly in spinal cord injury. I have authored or co-authored in excess of 100 articles of various types, mainly in spinal cord injury. I was Chairman of the British Association of Spinal Injury Specialists for two years in 2009 and 2010. I have undertaken various roles for the International Medical Society of Paraplegia, including Honorary Treasurer for eight years. I was elected Fellow in 1998.
